DR BRYAN WANG DEHAO

Dr. Bryan is an avid fitness enthusiast who spends much of his free time indulging in his love for running, swimming and going to the gym. As a former member of the Commando formation during his time in National Service, he is well aware of the importance of fitness and the innate desire to return to peak performance whilst minimising downtime.

As a sports orthopaedic specialist and with experience in fitness training, Dr Bryan has knowledge of the rigours and physical strains that can occur from sports and exercise. He is able to use these expertise to provide his patients with options that will benefit and suit their active lifestyle.

Dr Bryan Wang is a fellowship-trained orthopaedic surgeon with an interest in Shoulder & Elbow and Sports Surgery (knee). He graduated from the National University of Singapore in 2005 and was placed on the Dean’s List. He went on to complete his advanced specialist training in Orthopaedic Surgery and was admitted as a Member of the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh in 2010. He subsequently obtained a Masters of Medicine in Orthopaedic Surgery in 2013 and gained admission as a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh in 2015 following successful completion of his specialist training.

Under the Eastern Health Alliance scholarship in 2017, he underwent further sub-speciality training in the field of Upper Limb Reconstruction (Shoulder & Elbow) and Sports Surgery (Knee) at the Pan Am Clinic in Canada for a year under the tutelage of Professor Peter MacDonald, the President-Elect of the prestigious American Shoulder and Elbow Society. During his time there, he was involved in the care of professional athletes, including Olympians and ice hockey players from the National Hockey League, giving him insight into the functional demands of the elite athlete.

Dr Bryan was practising in Changi General Hospital as a Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon and was instrumental in the growth and development of the Shoulder & Elbow Unit. He has more than 15-years of experience in the management of general orthopaedic conditions, including musculoskeletal injuries and fractures of the upper and lower limb. Dr Bryan is proficient in all aspects of Shoulder & Elbow surgery, including arthroscopic (minimally-invasive) and open procedures. He offers advanced arthroscopic solutions like superior capsular reconstruction for massive rotator cuff tears that are not reparable. He also offers arthroplasty solutions (both shoulder and elbow replacements) for degenerative conditions and complex fractures that are not amenable to fixation. In addition, Dr Bryan has significant experience in the surgical management of complex fractures of the elbow. He advocates the use of minimally-invasive techniques like elbow arthroscopy for the surgical management of conditions such as recalcitrant tennis elbow, impingement, or osteoarthritis of the elbow to minimise downtime for his patients.

Dr Bryan is a keen advocate of education and has been a Clinical Lecturer with both the Yong Loo Lin and Lee Kong Chian Schools of Medicine since 2013. He is a Clinical Assistant Professor with the Duke-NUS Academic Medical Centre and has been involved in the training of orthopaedic surgery residents in his role as a Clinical Physician Faculty since 2016. He was given the Outstanding Faculty Award by the Singhealth Residency Program in 2021 for his role in mentoring the next generation of orthopaedic surgeons.

Dr Bryan has a keen interest in research and has multiple publications in renowned international peer-reviewed journals. In addition, he is an invited reviewer for several orthopaedic and sports medicine journals. He is also regularly invited as a faculty for both local and regional courses and meetings to share his experience in Shoulder & Elbow surgery with both residents and fellow surgeons.

Dr Bryan strongly believes that no two patients are alike and that every treatment plan must be tailored and individualised to each patient through a collaborative partnership. There is nothing that gives him greater satisfaction than helping his patients achieve their goals, and he firmly believes in the mantra that motion is life.

In his free time, Dr Bryan can be found unwinding on the trails or spending time with his family. He is fluent in English, Mandarin and Hokkien.
