The bursa is a soft tissue cushion that allows muscles and bones to slide over each other, and bursitis is the inflammation of these bursae. There are numerous bursae located around the hip.

The most common bursitis in the hip is trochanteric bursitis, which is inflammation of the bursa over the side of the hip.

What Are The Symptoms Of Bursitis?

One may experience pain and tenderness over the outer aspect of the hip, particularly with movement.

What Are The Treatment Options Available For Bursitis?

Most cases of trochanteric bursitis respond well to rest and physiotherapy.

Persistent symptoms often respond to cortisone steroid injections. However, in rare cases, surgical excision of the bursa can also help.
